I have to tell you, this tutorial has kicked my booty!! I have so many other projects that I have been working on this week and every night I think that I am going to write a second post about the projects I have accomplished that day – – BUT it takes me forever to write these step by step instructions, that by the time I am done, I just go straight to bed!! Let me add this to yesterday… every chair is different and the arms are going to be done differently on each one – – so…. So – – after yesterday, all we had left was the back of the chair and the cushion!! I love to use my Curve-ease Ply Grip to attach the back. It is the easiest stuff to work with once you learn how to use it. I have been using it for 3 years now, so I think it was definately worth the investment! In a pinch, I have been able to buy it off of local upholstery shops – – it just depends of the shop owner whether they are willing to sell it or not!! So, here is a mini tutorial on Curve-ease Ply Grip:

You are of course welcome to draw your own conclusions from the evidence. After all, why should we amateur historians agree when the scholars can’t do so: Archaeological finds Birka The excavation of Birka was mainly conducted in the s by Hjalmar Stolpe. Although Stolpe made fairly accurate drawings of the different graves, textiles was not considered important at the time, and was omitted from the drawings.
The material found in Birka is from the 9th and 10th century. Unfortunately the fragments that have been found are small and thus give little information about the cut of the garment. The remaining 21 contained linen or traces of linen that had been pleated in a very specific manner, making “standing” pleats with a depth of about mm. The practice of pleated linen seems to become more common in the 10th century, and only three of the 21 instances of pleated linen are found in 9th century graves.
The grave with the largest remaining pieces of pleated linen in the entire Birka excavation was grave

Antique fabric is fabric that is more than years old. People tend to prefer these fabrics over many contemporary designs because of their detail, color and general sense of style. Ties Well thats a skill to be learned. Several factors determine age. Length and width certainly play a role, and material. Rayon was quite the fine material in the 30’s ‘s. Silk was rare, and for the Ultra-Elite. And Nylon was not a term nor a fabric used for neckties until the 60’s as far as my research goes. Some necktie labels sometimes have the term “caravat” or “cravat” on it. This was a term used in the day describing “textile construction ” style, and that’s a good clue.

This will be the measurement along your fold and opposite end. The second measurement is from the base of the back of the neck to where you want the poncho to fall in the back. This will be your side measurements. The front will end up being shorter. Fold your fabric in half with raw edges at the bottom and your selvedge along the sides.

History of Technology Heroes and Villains – A little light reading Here you will find a brief history of technology. Initially inspired by the development of batteries, it covers technology in general and includes some interesting little known, or long forgotten, facts as well as a few myths about the development of technology, the science behind it, the context in which it occurred and the deeds of the many personalities, eccentrics and charlatans involved.
You may find the Search Engine , the Technology Timeline or the Hall of Fame quicker if you are looking for something or somebody in particular. Scroll down and see what treasures you can discover. Background We think of a battery today as a source of portable power, but it is no exaggeration to say that the battery is one of the most important inventions in the history of mankind. Volta’s pile was at first a technical curiosity but this new electrochemical phenomenon very quickly opened the door to new branches of both physics and chemistry and a myriad of discoveries, inventions and applications.
The electronics, computers and communications industries, power engineering and much of the chemical industry of today were founded on discoveries made possible by the battery. Pioneers It is often overlooked that throughout the nineteenth century, most of the electrical experimenters, inventors and engineers who made these advances possible had to make their own batteries before they could start their investigations.
They did not have the benefit of cheap, off the shelf, mass produced batteries.
